The method

The measure behind the meaning.

No secret formula or mysterious upload. We believe you should know exactly what your result is based on.

The free scan maps facial landmarks in your browser. Your photo never goes to our server. Saving measurements is always optional.

01 / THE MEASUREMENT

Visible hair coverage and front hairline

On-device hair segmentation estimates visible hair coverage in head and crown regions; facial landmarks provide a reference for the visible front hairline.

02 / HOW TO READ IT

Context is everything.

These are approximate measurements from one image, not a diagnosis or a reliable way to confirm hair loss. Photo angle, lighting, hairstyle, and image quality can affect the result.

03 / A BETTER PHOTO

Keep conditions consistent.

Face the camera, use soft daylight, hold a neutral expression, and leave a little room around your face. Results can change when your angle or lighting changes.

What this hair check measures

The Hair & Hairline Check estimates how much hair is visibly detected around the head and crown, then traces a front hairline when the photo provides a clear enough signal. For the length label, hair is considered long when it visibly extends below the estimated ear line; otherwise, it is considered short. The outline on the photo is an estimate from image segmentation, not a measured clinical hairline.

Coverage is the share of pixels classified as hair inside estimated head regions. It is not a count of individual strands or a clinical measurement of hair density. Dark backgrounds, shadows, hats, tied hair, and similar hair and skin tones can affect the estimate.

How to take a clearer hairline photo

Use a sharp, evenly lit photo with your forehead and hairline visible. Face the camera at eye level, keep your head straight, and avoid hats, filters, strong shadows, and hair covering the front hairline. For a fair comparison over time, use similar lighting, camera distance, and hairstyle.

  • Keep your full head and forehead inside the frame.
  • Use soft, even light and a plain background if possible.
  • Wear hair as you normally do, but keep the front hairline visible.

Read hair quantity and hairline estimates carefully

A front-facing portrait cannot show the back or full crown, and a single image cannot establish whether hair is thinning or why. Camera angle, contrast, styling, and segmentation errors can all change the percentages. The estimate is for visual reference only.

If you are concerned about ongoing shedding or changes in hair coverage, compare consistent photos and speak with a qualified healthcare professional. Optional haircut ideas on this page are separate styling suggestions, not conclusions from the hair check.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions.

What does the Hair & Hairline Check measure?+

It estimates visible hair coverage in head and crown regions and traces the front hairline when visible. The percentages describe pixels in this photo; they do not count individual hairs or diagnose hair loss.

Can one photo tell me if I am going bald?+

No. A single front-facing photo cannot confirm hair loss or show the full crown. Lighting, hairstyle, angle, and image quality can affect the estimate. If you are concerned about persistent changes, consult a qualified healthcare professional.

How can I get a clearer hairline estimate?+

Use an evenly lit, unfiltered photo with your forehead and front hairline visible. Keep the camera at eye level and avoid hats, shadows, and hair covering the hairline.

Does my photo leave my device?+

No. Image analysis runs locally in your browser. Your photo is not uploaded or saved by Look Checker.

Do I need an account?+

No. The check works in your browser without signing up.
